The Last Hit

This October, the production of an Evanture Film, The Last Hit, will begin. It will be submitted to the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2014!

A Hitman who has fallen in love comes to the point where he must choose between Sonny (a mob leader) and Janie (his girlfriend). Things become even more complicated when Sonny assigns him his "Last Hit."

Things don't go as smooth as usual when another gang has a hit on the same person, and Sonny's gang starts to see the Hitman as a possible loose end. With everyone seemingly against him he must try and make it out of the mob in one piece.

Los Angeles 48 Hour Film Festival 2013

We had to use as a prop: a wrapped gift
We had to use as a character: a journalist Elly or Ed
We had to use the line: "I don't care, you decide"

We had 48 hours to write, film, edit, and submit a short film (4-7 min)

Behind the Scenes

(Pre-Prodcution)
Originally when I chose Romance out of the hat my DP and I were 50/50 on choosing another genre from the second hat, but then there would be a chance of getting stuck with operetta, in which every line would have to be sung.

(Short Gist)
I came up with the idea to do a Romance action and then the DP and I wrote a script, got 3 hours of sleep and then filmed all day on Saturday and stayed up all night editing and on Sunday we had some amazing music done by our friend Danny.

(Production)
I was very happy to have so much help from my friend Rachel, she really helped with casting and letting us film & meet at her house for the movie. She did a wonderful job casting and acting as well. She really helped out so much and we were very thankful to have had her on our team.

I was very happy with how everything went when we were shooting on Saturday, the actors and crew did a wonderful job working together and time management was used very effectively during the production.

We were really glad to film at Tara Bar & Grill, we weren't the only team to film there, just the best :) We greatly appreciated their hospitality and were very happy to use there location/business in our film.

My friend Ian really stepped up and helped us out to the best of his abilities all day on Saturday and really can't express how much we all appreciated that.

(Post-Production)
This was definitely the hardest part, trying to go through a whole days worth of footage in one night, label it all, do a strait-cut, get the music done, lock up the effects, double check credits and titles, and we need to make sure we have all of the paper work ready to submit as well. We got this all done and we are looking forward to the screening.

Wow so much happened in 48 hours, and we submitted our film to IMDB so No Love Lost will be there very soon.

How I Am Lucky to be ALIVE

I've been riding my motorcycle for 8 months now, and it's really been an amazing experience to say the least. Going for beautiful rides up the coast, feeling the breeze in the air, lane splitting between cars, but I learned an important lesson.

"It's not if you fall, it's when you fall." Yesterday I was the day that I fell…

I was riding with a buddy of mine up skaggs/Lake Sonoma and this is a windy road with a lot of twists and turns. My bike is a little 2009 rebel 250 and sometimes when I would go too fast around curves I would scratch the foot pegs from leaning too much. My buddy had a larger bike than I did and it was more suited for those types of turns, but it was my fault for going too fast with my bike around the bend and I shouldn't have tried to push it that hard.

Around one of the longer turns I was (going 55mph) trying to lean the bike without scratching the peg and I felt the bike/tires lost traction, then I began to feel the bike slide under.

The bike and I fell on my right side and skidded about 15 feet, things happened so fast, in a matter of seconds my life flashed before my eyes.

The next thing you know I'm on the ground with a torn up jacket, torn up jeans, and I'm very shook up. I limped over to my bike and began to squeeze the horn and my buddy came back for me.

He took a look at me, we took off my helmet and jacket and there was abrasions on my arm (elbow), my hip, my knee, and a little bit on my ankle. I thought, and my friend told me, that I was not only lucky to be alive, but that my bike wasn't too damaged as well.

My friend waved down a trucker and he gave me antiseptic and my buddy patched me up pretty well. Living about an hour away from where this all took place, I got back on my bike with torn up clothes and a little bloody and I rode back home.

I went home and called the doctor's office and they said if I could walk that I could just come into the doctors the next day, which was today. I came in, and you guys should be happy I didn't take pictures of what it looked like in there, it was nasty.

A hole in my elbow and a patch of flesh on my hip, but they cleaned it up and as long as nothing gets infected and I take my antibiotics and pain medication I should be ok with some scars. The doctor said if I came into ER yesterday they would've stitched my elbow up, but it's too late for that now.

At the end of the day, I am very luck to be alive. This jacket saved my shoulder which had no damage what so ever. My neck and back were/are completely fine. I wouldn't want to imagine what I would've broken and gotten torn up without this jacket. Good chance I wouldn't have a right arm.

I was also lucky to not have hurt my leg too bad, because I was just wearing jeans. They got torn up and my knee has a little abrasion and is swollen, but my elbow and hip took most of the blow.

The trucker was kidding around and said "good thing you wore underwear today," because my pants were torn, I had a delayed laugh.

I learned an important lesson and that's no matter how much someone loves adrenaline it's better to go easy on the gas and have a long smooth ride, "the ride of life," than to have a fast short ride with a disastrous ending.

I have so much to live for, I'm only 20, and I'm on the way to becoming the filmmaker I dream to be. Nothing will get in my way for my passion in film will outweigh/out-power anything or anyone that comes my way.

One more thing to look at is the steel toe boots I wore, they were torn down so you can actually see the steel. Good thing I wore these because my foot could've gotten crushed by the weight of the bike falling on it, worse case scenario would be a shattered foot which could mean losing it… But thankfully I always wear those steel toe boots.

So I made it out of the doctor's today, and should recover quite well. I am so thankful to be alive, I love all of my friends and family so much, all of there support means so much to me. I have so much to live for, such a wonderful future ahead of me to strive for, and so much left to prove to the world.

As I've said for sometime now, "sand only falls from the hourglass, it never rises and that's why every grain of sand count."

In other words life is short, live it to the fullest, don't forget those who have helped you become who you are or will be, and live life with love and you shall love the life you live.

Hope this story connected with some of you, and it shows how quick something could happen to change one's perspective on life. Never take anyone or anything for granted, especially life it self.

La Liga Urbana: Street Soccer

La Liga Urbana is an organized street soccer league that hosts 5 on 5 pick up games. It started in Southern California and has worked it's way up to Northern California. They are trying to build a soccer community, they want this league to grow city from city. Eventually it will become large enough to host tournaments, gain sponsors, and have cup/cash prizes.

Here is the 1st video of La Liga Urbana in Northern California.

(Select 1080 HD for the highest quality)

Feel free to share this video with friends by posting it on Facebook or any other social network you use because we are trying to get as many views as possible.

Here's the link to the La Liga Urbana's youtube page, which has videos from Southern California as well and more videos are on the way!

Thanks for your time. Hope you enjoyed the video and we're looking forward to expanding not only this league, but the sport of soccer itself.

Reflecting on my Blogs Expansion

I want to start off by saying thank you to my fellow bloggers who have viewed this page, you've helped me reach 800 views!!!

I always thought of blogging for English 1A as a creative exercise for homework. We get to write about how we feel about something, and respond to an issue or someone's writing. I want everyone to know that if you think that this is just some silly school blog, than you're wrong.

I learned this semester by viewing my audience of my blog page that there's people reading my blogs all around the world. I was shocked to learn how many people around the world were reading what I wrote for our English class, especially since I never sent my link out to anyone. Here's the stats that I saw today when I looked into my audience and where the viewers came from:

United States
589
Canada
50
Russia
43
Germany
17
United Kingdom
16
Philippines
13
India
9
Hong Kong
8
Ireland
6
Malaysia
6

My favorite blogs that I did this semester were Evantureland (Our advertisement blog on our ideal community) and The Great Evantures (5 photo collage). I'm majoring in filmmaking and I love creative writing so I felt that our ideal community blog really let us be free to express how we would like society to be and how it can be improved  upon. I also liked my Great Evantures blog because I was able to express where I came from, where I am, and where I hope to go.

Even though I may be done with English blogs now, this blog page will go on and I will continue to update it. I've been inspired from learning that people around the world are actually reading what I'm writing. I didn't get a chance to finish my video on Global Warming yet, but when I do this will be the first place that I post it up on.

My best work is yet to come, for this creative writer hasn't even scratched the surface of his full potential.

The Great Evantures

Life is what you make of it.
Life itself is an adventure.

The Beginning
I grew up in Southern California, where I became a passionate skateboarder. I loved skateboarding, I lived to ride that board and compile a bunch of footage and edit my skateboarding videos. I started off in 6th grade with a board and my bag of tricks was empty. As I grew, I progressed, and I worked my way up to becoming a sponsored skateboarder.

The Transition
As I grew older I began to realize that there is so much else in the world besides my board with four wheels. I began to realize that the SKY's the LIMIT. I began to feel this urge inside of me telling me that there's some job out there with my name on it that could influence others in some way. I was in high school when I realized how much I enjoyed creative writing and filmmaking.

The Present
Now I'm in college, pursuing my dream to become a filmmaker. I've got a few short stories and scripts under my belt now, but I know the that the best is yet to come. I've merely began my journey of education in my field. I know I have so many mistakes to make and lessons to learn. I've always loved art and stories, now I'm studying the art of storytelling through filmmaking. I love waking up after dreaming of a script or story and knowing that since perfection is always going to be out of reach, that leaves me with limitless room for improvement. I can try and master something that will never be mastered and I'm fine with that because that means my next piece can always be better than the last one. Right now I'm working on a short film that's going to be my best yet and I'm looking forward to completing it real soon.

The Future
As it says in my fortune "Allow yourself time - you will reach success." This represents how we have control of our destiny. I will not rush my own projects or try to jump into anything that I'm not prepared for. I will be calm, collective, and ready for problems to arise because a big part of making films is having a knack for problem solving. I can't get furious when there's a sound issue or something, I just need to be prepared for the worst and thing of how I will get past the roadblock in my way. I must decide if I will go around it, climb over it, or just break right through it. Either way I will be ready for obstacles to arise before me along my journey into the art of filmmaking.
There's always two sides to every story, as there's two sides to every coin. There's always the good and the bad, two paths to choose from. We always must decide which way we will go when there's a fork in road that we call life. I may not be able to predict the future or my outcome, but at the end of the day our fate is within our own hands. Our success is measured by one person only and that's ourselves. You must have self-confidence in order to take pride in your work. Progression is made by the individual striving to do better than before, to improve on what they're working on. As Chris McCandless said, "If you want something in this life,  reach out and grab it."

The Dark Side                                                                                   The Bright Side

Into the Wild: The River

Chris endured sixty-seven days in the wild when he realized that the gentle knee-deep creek he had easily crossed had became way deeper due to the rain and snowmelt from glaciers high in the Alaska Range. Throughout the novel we see how strong of a man Chris is and how much he goes through on his journey, and this really symbolizes how he's just a man. People aren't perfect and no one can do "everything" right, we all have our flaws, imperfections, and our fears. Some people can control their fears better than others.

We come to learn that Chris isn't a good swimmer and that the Teklanika had went from a creek to a whitewater river. Chris is in fact afraid of the water. He believed that he would've been pulled into the rapids long before he could've swam across the river.

Chris wrote in his journal, "Disaster…. Rained in. River look impossible. Lonely, scared." He felt that he would've died if he attempted to cross the river. On page 170 it describes that Chris could've possibly mad it across the river before going into the rapids or catching hypothermia, if he dog-paddled and hopped along the bottom as he drifted downstream.

This is a real turning point in the novel because now Chris really begins to see that he may get stuck in the wild and that he can't leave whenever he wants. This is when reality wakes him up from this beautiful landscape and he realizes that this is the wild, where he has gone unprepared for the worst which is coming upon him.
